White Sox and Cubs Come Up Short in Post Season

The Chicago White Sox andChicago Cubs made it to the postseason for the first time together in102 years, but both fell short in theirDivision Series.
Chicago White Sox lost 3 games toone and Chicago Cubs lost 3 gamesto zero and were eliminated after thefirst round of the Major LeaguePlayoffs. The Boston Red Sox andTampa Bay Rays now advance tothe American LeagueChampionship. The Los AngelesDodgers and Philadelphia Philliesadvance to the National LeagueChampionship.
The White Sox lost at homeMonday evening after clinching theCentral Division title near the end ofthe season. This was also a back-tobacktrip to the playoffs for theCubs.
After winning their final threegames to win the AL Central, theSox lost their first two games in St.Petersburg, but managed to pull offa victory on Sunday. With injuries atthe end of the season, the Sox wentas far they could go Monday night atU.S. Cellular Field.
After the defeat, it was too late todelve into how Carlos Quentin, JoeCrede, Scott Linebrink and BobbyJenks could have made a difference.Quentin and Crede were out for allof September, while Linebrinkmissed two months and Jenks wasout one.
We werent a good defensive teamthe last three weeks of the season.Some of it was due to injury, someof it due to whatever. But I amproud of the guys, they worked,hitting coach Greg Walker toldreporters.
Depending on whether you see theglass as half-full or half-empty,there was some sadness with success,since this year was a huge stepup from last years 72-90 disaster.The group defied the odds and producedone of the most exciting seasonsin recent history for fans.
For Sox catcher AJ. Pierzynski, theseason had its high and low points.Im disappointed but not ashamedwith what we did this year. Theresno way anyone saw this coming todo what we did except for the peoplein this clubhouse. It was a fun year,an interesting year, full of ups anddowns.
The White Sox also won the WorldSeries in 1917, but later on lost in1959. The last time they won theWorld Series was in 2005 by defeatingthe Houston Astros four gamesto zero.
