Coalition Seeks Protection: Group Says They Want It In Writing

A coalition of community groups recently demanded the city sign a binding legal agreement to ensure the 2016 Olympic Summer Games do not displace communities of color. Comprised of more than 100 community leaders, Communities for an Equitable Olympics 2016 (CEO) recently launched a campaign asking for guaranteed protection of homes and jobs. While Mayor Daley was attending the Olympics in Beijing, China, CEO said it wants assurances that communities on Chicago's South Side will not be detrimentally affected if Chicago wins the right to host the games.
In a released statement, Jay Travis, executive director of the Kenwood-Oakland Community Organization said, "While many people are excited about Chicago's opportunity to host the 2016 Olympic Games, we want to ensure that South Side Communities arent pushed out as a result."
