About Us... The Citizen
CNG
Editorial Perspective
As one of the oldest business institutions in the Black community, the Black Press has established itself as one of the most potent forces ever to evolve for defining social issues and for shaping their outcome.
In its history of over 150 years, the Black Press has earned for itself a respected tradition as a leader and advocate of civil rights, equality and community development, and as a ventilator of minority grievances of all kinds.
At the Citizen, we admire that tradition and try to maintain it by providing an analysis of important events, supporting institutions and individuals who are concerned with uplifting the quality of life within our communities while condemning those who only seek to destroy it.
The Citizen Newspaper Group Inc.is a vibrant organization serving the needs of a questioning, increasingly active citizenry. The Citizen publishes the Chatham-Southeast, South End, Chicago Weekend, Hyde Park and South Suburban Citizen.
We serve as a voice for our immediate community, reporting to the rest of the world the spectrum of life as it is lived here. We also serve as a disseminator of vital information, both within and outside of the community and while we work to preserve the image and tradition of the Black Press, we also strive to enhance it. With our editorial perspectives, we attempt to include the needs and interests of the entire community.
We know that a community, rather than being a unified monolith, instead, is comprised of a diverse set of beliefs and opinions. We respond to this with a variety of special features and different viewpoints, with the concept of community progress and growth always in mind.
The Citizen Newspaper Group is a progressive organization. We inform, we challenge, and we do our best to serve the ever-changing needs and interest of our readership.
