Bright Star Church of God in Christ host Fifth Annual Bronzeville Family Festival
by Dwayne T. Ervin
Five years ago, Bright Star Church of God in Christ may have played host to only church members participating in its annual festival. Today, over four thousand community residents participated in the Fifth Annual Bronzeville Family Festival located on 735 E. 44th Street last Saturday. According to Chris Harris, pastor of the church, the event has grown in leaps and bounds.
With gospel music, live bands, food, raffles and school supply giveaways, the festival has become a way to reach out to members of the local community. God was calling me to minister outside our four walls into our community, Harris stated. Our first year 300 to 500 people participated. Today, we registered at least 4 to 5,000 people. Bright Stars Community Outreach and several sponsors helped fund the event.
